This Leads to That is a juried glass art exhibition that will be on display at Kennedy Galleries at Glass Axis from January 8th through February 20th. The exhibition features 18 artists’ work that was submitted through Glass Axis and juried by Tom Hawk Jr.
Tom is director and owner of Hawk Galleries located in downtown Columbus, Ohio. Established in 1986, the gallery represents modern masters who create contemporary sculpture that celebrate glass as a fine art medium. Through openings, lectures, demonstrations, national exhibitions and studio tours, Hawk Galleries strives to both educate and connect the collector and artist. In 1986, Tom Hawk, Jr. opened his first gallery featuring contemporary glass with his former wife in Columbus’ Short North helping to establish the developing area as an art district. In 1988, Hawk returned to school at The Ohio State University, and graduated in 1990 with his MBA. In June, 2002 Hawk relocated the gallery to its present downtown location, which features 5,000 sq. ft. of exhibition space, and rental opportunities. Hawk Galleries showcases the museum-caliber works of Lino Tagliapietra, William Morris, Bertil Vallien, Dan Dailey, Christopher Ries, Martin Blank, Dante Marioni and Albert Paley to name only a few.
The pieces on display in this show all must be specifically inspired by something else and contain at least 50% glass in either the inspiration or the finished outcome. Come and see what inspired these creative artists to make their work. Was it from a personal experience? A song lyric? or just something they saw as they gazed out the window? Inspiration comes in many forms to the artist and this exhibition showcases that process.
The opening reception will take place on January, 8th from 6-8pm. Refreshments will be provided.
