• Hotter…Faster…Thinner…Better. | Nadine Taylor | June 11-15


    Have you ever wanted to learn how to use your blow slot more efficiently? Do you want to learn how to blow glass thinner and make objects faster? In this course, we will go through an intensive boot camp with glassblowing drills and exercises in order to learn how to control the glass and blow hotter, thinner and faster. Students will learn how to use their precious hot shop time more efficiently by the end of the course. Emphasis will be on boosting their skill set and building on their prior knowledge of glass. We will begin with cups, bowls, cylinders, cones and complex that will inspire the individual thought process and design. Students will master the art of marvering glass and will explore the basics about color applications and surface patterning. From this basic foundation of techniques, students will work on sketching their original designs, whether functional or sculptural, which will act as the means to bring these ideas to life in glass.

    Students will make learn how to make thinner glassware, amphoras, decanters, bottles and more complex shapes of their own design. They will also learn how to use their valuable hot shop time more efficiently by the end of the course.

    Class is Monday June 11th through Friday June 15th. Class each day is from 10am to 6pm. There will be a lunch break around 1pm daily. We also offer a lunch plan for only $10 a day where our staff will deliver food that you choose from various local area restaurants.

    This class is open to intermediate and advanced levels. Intermediate being defined as having at least 1 year of experience and confidently make basic vessel forms(cups, vases, bowls etc.). Not sure or have questions? Contact us at or call 614-291-4250.

    Nadine Saylor graduated from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University in 2007 with her MFA in “Sculpture Dimensional Studies”. She was an Artist-In-Residence at “Sculpture Space” in Utica, NY the summer of 2008. That same fall, she became an Instructor at Bowling Green State University where she taught glassblowing and glass casting for four years. Since then, Nadine has been an artist-in-residence at the Harbourfront Center in Toronto, ON and at the Pittsburgh Glass Center where she had an exhibition in the Hodge Gallery at its completion. She currently teaches at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois.

    Nadine has taught workshops at  “The Studio” at Corning Museum of Glass, Penland School of Crafts, and the Pittsburg Glass Center. She has exhibited in many exhibitions including the “BIGG” exhibition at the Urban Arts Space in Columbus, OH and SOFA Chicago. She was awarded the prestigious “Dominic Labino Glass Guild Award” in the “Toledo Area Artists Exhibition”, was a Lydon Emerging Artist Program Award (LEAP) Finalist, and was awarded the “Glass Artist of the Year Award” in Cincinnati.  She has recently received an “Honorable Mention” for her work in the Chonju International Craft Biennial in Chonju, Korea
