RAD and pOrtrait will open in the Glass Axis Kennedy Galleries January 16 to coincide with the facility’s Grand Reopening of their new location in Franklinton, a neighborhood of Columbus, Ohio, and run through February 17, 2015.

RAD is a juried collection of ISGB members’ work. Members were not given a theme or a set of instructions, but given the opportunity to openly create. Traditional glass beads were combined with a uniquely different use of other media and these diverse forms challenged the boundaries between being guided to an end or simply creating freely, where anything could be the end. The pieces showcase the latest techniques and processes as well as traditional methods and materials and how they imaginatively come together. RAD highlights the cutting-edge creativity in one-of-a-kind bead, object, and jewelry design.

The pOrtait exhibition will also be on display. For this project, participants were invited to create a bead that expressed how they see themselves as a self-portrait. Artists considered how to translate their likeness, personality, or other artistic representation into a glass bead. These pieces depict the deepest part of each artist’s own self in how the glass is shaped, its color, and the extent of its embellishment. pOrtrait is a personal artistic journey of the artist’s own reflection.
