Glass Axis Studio Policy

In order to rent time at Glass Axis, you must observe the following rules and regulations:

Membership & Eligibility

  • Be a current member: pay annual membership fee and any previous balance due.
  • Have completed necessary course work or certifications in area of specialization.
  • Sign Studio Policy Rental Agreement form.
  • Sign a waiver.  All members and their assistants must have a waiver on file.

Safety

  • Use appropriate safety glasses, gloves, hoods, etc., at all times.
  • No fuming or similar toxic techniques.
  • No ladle casting is to be done outside of casting class or without special permission.
  • Guests (especially children) must sit on the bleachers and stay off the blowing pad.  Any visiting artist or other guest on the pad must have a signed waiver on file.

 Materials, Tools, & Equipment

  • Pick up all personal work within one week of rental time.  Work left in the studio more than one week will be placed on our "Rentable Shelves," and fees will be accrued. Glass Axis is NOT responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged works.
  • Glass Axis does not ship work to students unless special arrangements have been made and applicable fees paid.
  • Glass Axis does not loan studio tools or equipment.  No tools or equipment are to leave the studio.
  • Do not adjust the furnace or glory holes for any reason without getting technical help.
  • Clean up after yourself.

Scheduling & Costs

  • Rental time must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance, but as a courtesy we ask that you schedule 5 days in advance. This is necessary in order to provide sufficient glass of the highest possible quality to all members.  To keep rates affordable, the studio must match the frequency and cost of glass and charging with the hours that the studio is booked.  At the discretion of management, “walk-in” usage or unscheduled time may be arranged.
  • Reservations cannot be cancelled within 24 hours.
  • Use sign in/out log sheets to accurately record rental and warm up time. Use these sheets to make notes about equipment performance.
  • There is a 2 hour minimum for glory hole usage, unless you use a hole right after another user and require no warm up time. Gas costs are causing us to strictly enforce this policy.
  • If you take a break during the time you are renting a glory hole, you will be charged for that time.  Warm up time is included at no charge; however, if a glory hole is lit and left unused for a longer period, you will be charged for that time.
  • The hourly rental of a glory hole in the studio stands if you are using glass or not.  If you do not need a glory hole, you must still rent time in the shop in which you will be charged the least expensive glory hole rate per hour.
  • Those who keep others from using a tool will pay for the entire time that the tool is occupied, whether they are actively using it or not.
  • Please be courteous to other members and only sign up for time that you will actually use. Repeat cancellations will be reviewed for user suspension.
  • If you have signed up for a time and cannot use it, you will need to cancel 24 hours in advance of time slot, otherwise you will be charged for the full signed up time.
  • We suggest that you prepay for your account.  No one is permitted to work with an outstanding balance of $100 or more.  Prepaying will avoid the hassle of having to pay each and every blow slot.
  • Use only half the space in an annealer for a 3 hour slot and 1/3 for a 2 hour slot.  You must arrange to have more annealer space in advance of using that particular blow slot, and will be charged for extra annealer space.
  • If you are going to be making production, communicate with staff and let us know so that we can arrange an extra charge if needed.
  • If you are interested in renting a locker, you must sign a "Locker Rental Agreement" or the contents will be emptied.
